artist statement

everything is part of the great unfolding of our lives.

i write myself into existence, sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

i'm a white woman, born in Australia, living on Gadubanud/Gulidjan land with my daughter.

my aim is to write as honestly as possible and live with ease, attention, and care.

ari sharp is a white Australian artist whose practice examines how subjects are produced through social encounter and disciplinary expectation.

working across performance, text, and social practice, she investigates cultural ideals of the “good” woman, artist, and mother, treating everyday life as a site where identity is continually negotiated and enforced.

drawing on phenomenology and intersectional feminist theory, her work stages relational situations that unsettle norms of autonomy, productivity, and moral adequacy.

sharp’s practice operates as a buffer against disciplinary norms, exposing how social belonging is maintained through both recognition and constraint.
